How do I use countPAD/countPRO?

The countPRO Support Video provides step-by-step video instructions on how to process videos using countPAD/countPRO. The following summarizes the video.

Now that I have my countPAD, what should I do next?

  1. Download and install countPRO through the link in your purchase email or HERE.
  2. If you have not already done so, download VLC version 3.0.14 HERE. Please note that VLC version 3.0.14 is the preferred version, however any 32 bit version should work.
  3. Open countPRO and enter your product code provided in your countPAD/countPRO purchase email. If you do not have this email contact help@spacksolutions.com.
  4. Set up the preferences in countPRO to select file paths and set up your report header.

I have a turning movement count to process, what should I do next?

  1. Plug in the countPAD before opening countPRO. The countPAD must be connected directly to a USB port on the computer.
  2. Click "Start Turn Count" to begin your study.
  3. Select the video you want to process. It is best practice to process one continuous video. Video files must be 24 hours in length, or shorter, and span a single day. If more than one date is present on a video, trim the video using the trimming function in the countCAM Toolbox. This will ensure full functionality of countPRO during the processing.
  4. Enter the start time and date of the count as shown in the screenshot.
  5. Select your bin size, count approaches, and optional movements. Be sure to select the desired options before starting the count as selecting them after a count has started can cause errors. We recommend always selecting all directions, and optional movements as it will not impact your count to have them and not use them.
  6. Click "Start" in countPRO, or "Pause" on the countPAD to start your count.
  7. Use the keys on the countPAD to process your video. You can pause, speed up, or slow down the count via keys on the countPAD. An "Undo" botton is also avaialble which will allow you to undo the last movement only.
  8. If you can not complete a count in one sitting, pause the count. This will bring up export and saving options. Click "Save" to take a break from the count and start again at a later time. To restart a count open countPRO, click continue, and select your study file.
  9. If you have completed the count you can Export the counts to PetraPro or excel by clicking "Export".
  10. Click Report to generate a study report with user selected options.
