What Classifications Are Provided Through countCLOUD.pro?

countCLOUD.pro has been optimized to provide trail counts, volume only access counts, and five classification breakdowns. These include two-, three-, five-, six-, and 13-vehicle classifications.

Trail counts provide directional pedestrian and bicycle counts along a pathway at a specific point or turning movements for up to four approaches that intersect at a single point.

Volume only access counts provide single class, inbound and outbound volumes, at a intersection approach or development access.

The vehicle classification break down as follows:

  1. 2-Class
    1. Light Vehicles: FHWA Classes 1, 2, 3, and 5 that are the size of an ambulance or smaller
    2. Heavy Vehicles: All other FHWA Classes
  2. 3-Class (Single)
    1. Light Vehicles: FHWA Classes 1, 2, 3, and 5 that are the size of an ambulance or smaller
    2. Single Unit Trucks: FHWA Classes 4, 6, 7, and designated vehicles from Class 5
    3. Articulating Trucks: FHWA Classes 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13
  3. 3-Class (Busses)
    1. Light Vehicles: FHWA Classes 1, 2, 3, and 5 that are the size of an ambulance or smaller
    2. Buses: FHWA Class 4
    3. Heavy Vehicles: A rollup of the FHWA Classes 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and designated vehicles from Class 5
  4. 5-Class
    1. Motorcycles: FHWA Class 1
    2. Cars/Light Trucks: FHWA Classes 2 and 3
    3. Buses: FHWA Class 4
    4. Medium Trucks: FHWA Classes 5, 6, and 7
    5. Heavy Trucks: FHWA Classes 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13
  5. 6-Class
    1. Motorcycles: FHWA Class 1
    2. Passenger Cars: FHWA Class 2
    3. Pickups, Panels, Vans: FHWA Class 3
    4. Buses: FHWA Class 4
    5. Single Unit Trucks: FHWA Classes 5, 6, and 7
    6. Heavy Trucks: FHWA Classes 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13
  6. 13-Class
    1. Provides a full 13-class FHWA classification breakdown.

Under all vehicle processing scenarios, directional pedestrian and bicycle crosswalk movements, and turning movements for bicycles in the roadway, are provided.

PLEASE NOTE: Pedestrian/bicycle movements WILL NOT be provided in volume counts unless a marked crosswalk is present. Pedestrians/bicycles using the adjacent sidewalk facilities WILL NOT be included.

 

What Are the Processing Cost for Each Classification Schema?

countCLOUD uses "available hours" as the cost base for processing.

Trail counts and 2-classification counts utilize one available hour per processed hour of video. As 3-class and 13-class count require more resources to process, a different ratio is used to determine the available hours utilized for each processed count.

3-class counts will utilize 1.5 times the processing duration rounded to the nearest integer. This means a 12 hour 3-class count will use 18 available hours (1.5x12=18) while a 13 hour count would use 20 available hour (1.5x13=19.5. rounding to the nearest integer =20).

5-class counts will use a 2 to 1 ratio (a 12 hour count will cost 24 available count hours).

6-class counts will use a 2.25 to 1 ratio rounded up to the nearest integer. Therefore a 13 hour 6- class count will cost 30 total available hours.

13-class counts use a 3 to 1 ratio meaning a 12 hour 13-class count will use 36 available hours.

Volume only access counts can be completed faster, and therefore 1/2 count hour per video hour, rounded up to the nearest integer.

How are Intersections Defined in countCLOUD?

An intersection is defined as a location in which 2 roads intersect, at grade, resulting in up to 4 distinct approaches that can be captured with a single video. The movements from these approaches need to be defined and limited to through traffic, left turns, right turns, and U-turn movements.

If more than 4 approaches are present at a single point intersection the "Multi-leg TMC" option should be selected. If more than one camera is needed, or two intersections are closely spaced together additional countCLOUD counts may need to be purchased. countCLOUD Rules

In an effort to keep countCLOUD costs at the most competitive level possible, while still providing a 3-business day turnaround guarantee, specific rules and guidelines must be followed. These include:

  1. The 3-business day clock will start once all files and information are received and are correct.
  2. We will not modify or correct labelled aerial views or video files uploaded to countCLOUD. If an error is found in the provided information that prevents processing, you will be notified through the error reporting system and the 3-business day clock will not start.
  3. We will count the provided videos based on the information in the count page. This means any incorrect directional or start and stop time information will be reflected in your completed data and will count against your purchased allotment of counts. Please double check all count data, screenshots, and videos before uploading to ensure the correct recording period and directional information is entered.
