How do I prepare and use the countCAM2?

The countCAM2 New User Tutorial provides step-by-step video instructions on how to prepare and use your countCAM2 to collect video data. The following summarizes the video.

Now that I have my countCAM2, what should I do next?

  1. Please fully charge your countCAM2 before using or testing it. Due to shipping procedures the battery level of your device may be too low for proper operations. Fully charging the device will help eliminate this potential occurrence.
  2. Download the countCAM App from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. The CountCAM App will allow you to view the camera video and start and stop recording.
  3. Remove the plastic lens protector from the countCAM2 to ensure the clearest view possible.

My countCAM2 is fully charged, how do I use it?

  1. Turn on the countCAM2 by depressing the black power button. A blue light will turn on. Older models of the countCAM2 will have a blue light that turns on for a few seconds and then turns off.
  2. Using a mobile device with the countCAM App installed, connect to the countCAM2. Complete this by opening the WIFI settings to search for the countCAM2 device. A WIFI network with the name COUNTCAM_############ should appear. The numbers will match the serial number printed on your device.
  3. When the COUNTCAM network appears click on the device and enter the password "12345678".
  4. Once the device is connected you may receive a warning message saying that there is no internet access. This is normal.
  5. Leave the phone settings and open the countCAM App.
  6. The app will load and show a live screen of the camera view. If the app provides a warning close it and reopen it as this sometimes mean the countCAM2 wasn't fully connected when the application was opened.
  7. Click the orange circle at the bottom of the screen to start recording. A red light will flash in the app and a blue light will flash on the countCAM2. This means the camera is recording.
  8. If more than 50-hrs of recording is desired attach a booster to extend recording time for another 50-hrs.
  9. When recording is complete hold the power button for three seconds to turn off the device.

I have recorded video with my countCAM2, how do I retrieve it and prepare the device for its next use?

There are two ways to retrieve the videos from your countCAM2. One process allows for direct download of the raw data files from the countCAM2 while the other utilizes the countCAM2 Toolbox. The Toolbox download is recommended as it reduces file sizes saving space on your computer, joins the files into a single video file to reduce clutter, and creates a Count Sheet which can be used for countCLOUD Processing.

Toolbox Download (Recommended)

  1. Plug your countCAM2 into a computer using the download cable. This will open the file browser on your computer within a few seconds providing you access to your raw video files. Close the window.
  2. Open the countCAM2 Toolbox and select "Process Videos on Cameras".
  3. Follow the steps within the toolbox to select the video files to compress and join and to create your Count Sheet. The countCAM2 Toolbox Instruction Video provides additional details and information on installing and using the countCAM2 Toolbox.
